“Let everyone be quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to anger.” (James 1:19)
“In everything do to others as you would have them do to you.” (Matthew 7:12)
These are the two verses that the Evangelism Ministry selected to go on the back of a card which included the acronym FEAR from Pastor Adam Hamilton’s book that was being used in Faith Wednesday Bible Study earlier this year. This book, Unafraid: Living with Courage and Hope in Uncertain Times, is as relevant as it gets for our place and time. On the front of this card is the explanation of the acronym FEAR, which is:
Face your fears with faith.
Examine your assumptions in light of the facts.
Attack your anxieties with action.
Release your cares to God.
I keep one of these cards in my wallet as a reminder, which has proved itself helpful on many occasions. The two Bible verses quoted have also proven to be helpful time and time again. These cards will be available at our outdoor worship services, so feel free to pick one up to aid in your faith journey.
You might have noticed that Wendy has included a new resource for Christian Education and faith formation titled Taking Faith Home in her weekly mass emails. This resource will help youth and adults learn about God and God’s Word in a lectionary-based format that can be used in the place of our weekly in–person Sunday School educational opportunities. My hope is that this can help us grow closer to Jesus through the Holy Spirit as we deal with a new normal.
Living in God’s amazing grace,
Pastor Matthew Groenke
