Here’s a May 21st, 2021 update from Bob Coleman, chair of the Bee/Pollinator Ministry:
We have great news for the Bee/Pollinator Ministry and for CtK!
Last year I applied for free milkweed plants from Monarch Watch, but they ran out of them before they got to us. I reapplied this year, and we were approved for Swamp Milkweed, Asclepias incarta, plugs. I have ordered them and will advise when they come in so we can schedule their planting!!! We only had to pay for their shipping costs.
I had 120 Common Milkweed plants in my yard last year, collected lots of seeds from them, and we can use some of those seeds on our property too!! I also am willing to share seeds!

One of the benefits of having both of those species is that they flower over different times. They both flower in June, July and August, but Swamp also flowers into September and October. So Swamp will be available for Monarch butterflies in route southward.
We will be planting the annual flowers soon, please see links to OPN for seed purchasing opportunities!
Bee positive for Pollinators! Bob
Christ the King’s newest ministry, the Bee/Pollinator Ministry, formed in early 2020. See below for information about the ministry’s purpose.

On July 25, 2020, ground was broken for the bee/pollinator habitat behind the church’s parking lot. This is an ongoing process that will take many months to complete. Here are photos of work that was done that day.
Talk to Bob Coleman, the ministry chair, for more information.
