Holy Week

Holy Week

Holy Week begins with Passion/Palm Sunday worship. Worship on that Sunday begins with a procession into the sanctuary with palms and often includes the Gospel account of Jesus’ Passion leading to his death on a cross, which is why the day is also referred to as Passion Sunday. Passion/Palm Sunday is March 24th, 2024.

Maundy Thursday, March 28th, 2024, is the day in the church year when Christians commemorate Jesus’ Last Supper in the Upper Room with his disciples, prior to his betrayal by Judas Iscariot. It is the official end of Lent and the beginning of the Triduum, or Three Days, leading up to Christ’s resurrection on Easter morning. Historically, Maundy Thursday worship has been a service with Holy Communion and the stripping of the altar in anticipation of the following day – Good Friday. Worshipers are asked to leave the service in silence.)

Good Friday ChancelGood Friday, March 29th, 2024 is the most somber day of the Christian year when we remember Jesus’ death on the cross.  The Good Friday worship service at Christ the King has historically been a service of darkness and shadows as we remember Jesus’ crucifixion. The service concludes with a somber veneration of the cross. The photo at left shows the altar during Good Friday worship.

Worship on Easter or The Resurrection of Our Lord – the holiest day of the Christian year – as we celebrate Christ’s resurrection will be at 10:00 AM on March 31st, 2024.

In 2024 Palm/Passion Sunday is on March 24th, Maundy Thursday is on March 28th, Good Friday is on March 29th.

CtK's weekly Worship with Holy Communion begins at 10:00 AM on Sundays.
