Holy Week begins with Palm/Passion Sunday worship. Worship on that Sunday begins with a procession into the sanctuary with palms and often includes the Gospel account of Jesus’ Passion leading to his death on a cross, which is why the day is also referred to as Passion Sunday. Palm/Passion Sunday is April 10th, 2022.
Maundy Thursday, April 14th, 2022, is the day in the church year when Christians commemorate Jesus’ Last Supper in the Upper Room with his disciples, prior to his betrayal by Judas Iscariot. It is the official end of Lent and the beginning of the Triduum, or Three Days, leading up to Christ’s resurrection on Easter morning. At CtK in 2022, Maundy Thursday scriptures will be read at the 6:00 PM April 13th Time with God Worship Experience; the service will also include Holy Communion. (CtK will not hold a Maundy Thursday worship service on Thursday, April 14th. Historically, Maundy Thursday worship has been a service with Holy Communion and the stripping of the altar in anticipation of the following day – Good Friday. Worshipers are asked to leave the service in silence.)
Good Friday, April 15, 2022 is the most somber day of the Christian year when we remember Jesus’ death on the cross. Good Friday Worship is a somber service that will be at 7:00 PM April 15th and will include the reading of Jesus’ Passion. Worshipers will be asked to exit the service in silence. (The Good Friday worship service at Christ the King has historically been a service of darkness and shadows as we remember Jesus’ crucifixion. The service concludes with a somber veneration of the cross. The photo at left shows the altar during Good Friday worship.) This is the link to the Good Friday worship bulletin.
On the evening before Easter, CtK has historically held an Easter Vigil that begins around a new fire. In 2022 there will not be a service for the Easter Vigil. The service continues with several Old Testament stories of faith. The service concludes with a celebration of Christ’s resurrection and Holy Communion.
Worship on Easter – the holiest day of the Christian year – as we celebrate Christ’s resurrection will be at 10:00 AM on April 17th, 2022. Everyone is invited to stay after worship for fellowship & light refreshments. Here’s the link to the Easter Sunday bulletin.
In 2022 Palm/Passion Sunday is on April 10th, Maundy Thursday is on April 14th, Good Friday is on April 15th.
